BIO230H Study Notes

This study booklet is tailored for BIO230H: From Genes to Organisms which is offered in every winter semester at the University of Toronto. First half of the course:

• Week 3 (6 pages) – Post-transcriptional regulations
• Week 4 (13 pages) – RNA quality control, translational and post-translational regulations
• Week 5 (8 pages) – Protein sorting
• Week 6 (8 pages) – Protein modifications and transport

Second half of the course:

• Week 7 (8 pages) – Membrane trafficking
• Week 8 (6 pages) – Tissue organization
• Week 9 (8 pages) – Cell differentiation and renewal

How contents in this study booklet organized?

The notes are organized based on materials taught in class every week, from Week 1 to Week 12. Even though some concepts may be covered differently from semester to semester, you can easily find them in this set of notes.

How to use the notes effectively?

You may colour print the notes, and use them to help the organization and understanding of the lecture materials.

For students who are using iPad or other digital tools to study, you may upload these notes to your choice of note-taking app such as Notability or Goodnotes, and annotate according to your class schedule. This will also make the search of specific topic easier.

Will these notes replace slides or course materials provided by professor?

The short answer is NO. While this study booklet is a valuable resource for reinforcing key concepts in BIO230H, it is not intended to replace the lecture slides or other course materials provided by your professor. Instead, it should be used as a supplementary tool to enhance your understanding of the material covered in lectures and readings. The booklet offers concise summaries and diagrams that can aid in reviewing and preparing for exams, but it may not cover every detail or nuance discussed in class.
